SimplRead at simplread.com (“we”, “us”) explains what we collect and how we use it.

What we collect

• Account: email address and hashed password when you sign up.
• Settings: your chosen AI provider and model; API key encrypted at rest on our server.
• History: article titles, source URLs, simplified slides, categories, and favorites you save.
• Cookies: an essential session cookie to keep you signed in; advertising cookies from Google AdSense when you use the reader (see below).

How we use data

• Provide the reading service, sync settings between web app and extension, and store your history.
• Call your AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Grok, Mistral, Groq, etc.) with your API key to simplify and categorize articles — we do not use our own AI keys for your content.
• Show ads in the reader via Google AdSense to help cover hosting and development.

Retention

We keep account data until you delete your account. Read sessions for anonymous links expire after one hour.

Cookie Policy

• Essential: authentication session cookie — required to stay signed in.
• Advertising: Google AdSense sets cookies when ads are displayed in the reader.
• Personalization (optional): additional cookies if you accept optional cookies in the banner.
• Local storage: tldr_cookie_consent stores your cookie choice.

You can change your mind by clearing site data or using the banner when it appears again.

Your rights (GDPR)

• Access and correct your data in Settings.
• Delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Delete my account.
• Contact us for export or other requests: privacy@simplread.com.

Lawful basis

We process account and history data to perform our contract with you (providing SimplRead). Ads are shown to fund the free service; optional personalization cookies rely on your consent.
